Port Hope United Church is actively involved in outreach programs in the community. We support:
Neighbourlink of Northumberland, particularly the following programs:
- Personal Needs Cupboard - allows
people with limited funds for food to pick up items such as toothpaste,
soap, shampoo, deodorant, laundry soap, Kleenex, and toilet paper.
- Drivers for rides - supplying drivers for those who need help.
- Meal-in-a-bag - we
purchase all the ingredients for a meal (except meat) and place them in
a bag along with the recipe and give them to the Salvation Army. They
add the meat (ground beef) and distribute them to people in need around
the county.
Fare Share Food Bank:
The first Sunday of each month is
"Fare Share Sunday" - the
congregation bring donations of
food which are taken downstairs to
the Food Bank.
White Gift Sunday:
Our food and monetary donations go to support the
Salvation Army
Christmas Hamper program.
The Giving Tree:
Gifts purchased throughout Advent are delivered to
Northumberland
Services for Women to help the women and children
they serve.
Greenwood Suppers:
We assist in this program to support people living
at Greenwood
Towers by providing a potluck
supper on Wednesday evenings. Port
Hope United Church has
agreed to provide the meal six times a year.
We also actively support the Mission and Service Fund of The United Church of Canada. Our M&S goal for 2010 is $35,000.
